The ARRC centre incorporates the Moyle and Coleraine Council dog pounds.
Unclaimed strays and unwanted dogs are kept here to be given a chance of being rehomed. The dog containment areas and extensive ‘runs’ were specifically built for this purpose and are of a high standard, and the staff are in my opinion the best in the world. They never complain, they work long hours for minimum wage, often doing several extra hours a day for which they don’t get paid. Working with animals takes real dedication and patience, the three paid staff at the animal ARRC have been here for a combined total of over 30 (no that isn’t a typing error) years and without their support, experience and commitment to their jobs, the dream of turning the facility into a wildlife hospital and education centre would probably remain just a dream.
Previously it was up to the new owner to ensure that the dog was vaccinated, but we now undertake this prior to dogs leaving the centre and the cost of this in now included in the cost of adopting a dog from Benvardin. We also microchip the dogs that leave the facility and offer a microchipping service for all dogs. Anyone wishing to have their own dog microchipped can contact us to make an appointment and we will do this Free of charge on behalf of the NCDL.
We can also supply a neutering voucher on behalf of the NCDL
The cost of adopting a dog from the Wildlife N.I. ARRC is now £70 (£100 for Puppies due to extra vaccinations required) and this also includes the fee for a dog license from your local council which we apply for on your behalf. The cost of actually rehoming a dog is LESS than what it costs us to keep and prepare the animal for rehoming, you would normally expect to pay between £120 and £180 to cover all these costs at your own vet. In the past we discovered new owners weren’t taking the animal to be vaccinated and neutered so we now undertake this before the animal leaves the centre.
